For imm cologne 2016, Sebastian Herkner designed a round and in part transparent house. The movable curtains used instead of wall elements allow new perspectives again and again — and thus a totally new and, in its consistency, unique concept. In Sebastian Herkner’s design, “Das Haus” becomes a statement with symbolic significance, a stand against societal isolation.

Das Apartment HAUS provides him with a currently exciting theme in 2021: the promotion of an entirely new attitude towards life. Especially with a view to the residential highrises in cities like New York, in which spacious communal space provide a counterweight to the mostly very small apartments. As with a project in Frankfurt, in which he was involved. That is the part that also interests him especially in the current project of imm cologne and which he will take on.

Key is to design the transitions between concentration and communication spaces in such a way that there is space for the various needs: space for retreat, for working together, but also for meeting people and allowing a neighbourly feeling to arise."
