At first glance, some furniture is easy to categorise: the armchair belongs in the living room, the dining table in the kitchen and the bed in the bedroom. But is it really always that easy? Some designs initially appear to belong outside but also fulfil the functions of an indoor item. Manufacturers Fermob and Weltevree have shown how two seemingly separate areas can blend beautifully in one piece of furniture.

Bellevie – the good life

From exuberant family celebrations to quiet moments with a book and conversations about everything and nothing in the garden or inside the home, the Bellevie collection from Fermob provides ample space in which to find your own personal definition of the good life.

Bellevie is Fermob’s most comprehensive modular outdoor lounge set. With its straightforward, modern and timeless design replete with curves, the collection symbolises pure joie de vivre. The wide range of elements available mean that multiple configuration options are possible, making Bellevie easily adaptable to any desired setting – whether outdoors or indoors. When established design studio Pagnon & Pelhaître was developing Bellevie, it was important that the furniture’s appearance would convey a warm atmosphere and a feeling of joy. The Parisian designers were able to achieve this effect solely through the collection’s gentle curves, simple lines and stylish charm.

One of Bellevie’s highlights is the versatile lounge sofa. Fully customisable with armchairs, 2- or 3-seater sofas, stools, benches, corner modules, connecting shelves and many more elements, the model satisfies every wish. Wide and deep, this lounge furniture is ideal for curling up to chat, relax and doze in the sunshine – in blissful comfort for hours on end. Thanks to its lightweight, weather-resistant aluminium frame, the model is easy to move as well as being exceptionally durable. Even selecting a colour scheme is a dream, with extensive options available for both the aluminium frames and upholstery fabrics.

And it’s not just the sofa that will win you over with its impressive form and function: the generously dimensioned, comfortable dining chairs also deliver a comfortable sitting experience. The cushions are filled with highly elastic polyurethane foam while the backrest cushion has a pocket that is pulled over the frame so that the metal part of the back of the dining chair is cleverly concealed for a particularly elegant finish. The height of the armrests has been deliberately engineered to fit under the tabletops of all the tables in the collection, so you’re free to mix and match the elements as you please.

Multifunktionales Tagesbett

Sofabed from Weltevree makes it easy to switch between relaxing and sleeping, inviting you to daydream – both indoors and outdoors. Hade Steenwinkel’s design was inspired by the idea of being able to both sit and sleep comfortably on the same sofa. The inclined angle of the mattress makes for a relaxing sitting position. And because the frame tilts at the same angle, the mattress lies flat when rotated 180 degrees. With just a quick spin, the sofa becomes a comfortable spot for an afternoon nap in the fresh air.

Sofabed is made from a soft but hard-wearing material called olefin. Olefin is extremely colour-fast, stain-resistant and water-repellent, which makes it a good fabric for outdoor applications. Even a rain-soaked mattress dries out quickly.

“I love it when the solution to a problem is so brilliantly simple that people say, ‘Why didn’t I think of that myself?’” says Steenwinkel. “It’s the most logical solution to a problem. That’s why Sofabed is so special: it just makes sense.”

Sofabed has no need for unnecessarily complicated opening mechanisms. A tilted mattress and a frame are all it takes to turn this sofa into a bed. Copyright: Weltevree
