1. Modern bathrooms today look like veritable well-being oases in which contemporary design meets functionality. What’s your view on the evolution of bathroom design in recent years?
The evolution of the bathroom reflects a clear shift: It is increasingly conceived as a place for relaxation and personal well-being. Modern bathrooms combine aesthetics with high functionality, often integrating technologies for greater convenience and comfort, such as water-saving taps and intelligent lighting. There’s a focus on harmonious design, which strengthens both the practical benefits and the emotional experience.

2. What role does the bathroom play in the home? And how has this changed over time?
In the past, the bathroom was primarily a functional room for fulfilling basic hygiene needs. It was often small, simple and something of a “room of necessity” in the home. Today, the bathroom is not just a functional space but rather a place for relaxation and a crucial element in an individual’s personal quality of life.
3. Technology and intelligent functionalities are making their way into the bathroom as well. For example, we’re seeing more and more “smart” toilets that are equipped with LED night lights, monitor water consumption or preheat the toilet seat. What do you think: How smart does a bathroom have to be today?
It’s a fine line. A bathroom doesn’t have to be completely “smart”, but well-conceived smart technologies can significantly improve comfort and the user experience. Water-saving taps are a good example of this. But it can also quickly become annoying if the toilet wants to do an update first and can’t be used, for instance. Then it becomes clear that some things work just as well or better when they’re analogue!

4. You recently designed the b:me collection for Burgbad. What does the name b:me stand for?
The b stands for Burgbad, while me symbolises the collection's focus on people and creating a sense of well-being in the bathroom. b:me aims to envelop you in comfort, much like a warm embrace.
5. The collection features soft, organic shapes, enhanced by a harmonious colour scheme. What role does colour play in the bathroom?
Colour plays a crucial role in the bathroom. It significantly influences the ambience and overall feel-good factor. Warm, calming tones can make a bathroom feel relaxing and inviting, while neutral colours such as white and grey exude timeless elegance. The right choice of colours can accentuate a design, create the illusion of more space and convey a general sense of freshness and cleanliness.
