Let there be light!
Muuto – Two-Layer Pendant Lamp
Inspired by a simple piece of glass, Danish label Muuto launched its Two-Layer Pendant Lamp at ORGATEC 2024 that seamlessly combines direct and diffuse light. “This was the longest project I’ve worked on so far. We started in 2018, and it was an incredible challenge to develop the lamp because of its complex shape and the way it’s constructed from hand-blown glass in two different layers,” explains designer Thomas Bentzen.
The two layers serve a specific purpose. The direct light shines onto the table, while the perforated steel mesh housing the LED bulb illuminates the lamp itself, softly diffusing the light throughout the room. Thanks to its structure and high-quality craftsmanship, the hand-blown glass boasts a unique aesthetic that corresponds to Bentzen’s vision of merging form and function. This choice of material has made it possible to create a lamp that not only provides illumination but also enhances the space by serving as a piece of sculpture.

Artemide – Boltons
The Boltons table lamp by Artemide could be described as a transparent body supporting a rotatable metal disc. But there is much more to the design concept than that. Boltons’ body is formed in a single step during production using a traditional technique that traps an air bubble inside the glass. Its total transparency draws attention to the strengths of the material that has captured the breath of the master glassblower. The glass is thicker at the top and thinner on the sides, where it has been stretched. The design also optically expresses the ability to control and move light across its surface.
A lens in the base directs the light upwards, controlling it with precision so it can be reflected by the disc according to the angle at which it’s tilted. The reflecting disc can be moved freely thanks to the geometry of the glass and the magnetic ball via which the reflector is attached. When the glass is struck by the beam of light, reflections bring it to life, without compromising the efficiency of the optical system.
The design by Herzog & de Meuron once again highlights the visionary lighting technologies that the long-established Italian manufacturer has been using to write design history for more than 60 years.

Sattler – Doppio
Sattler’s Doppio series stands out for its elegant, minimalist form and maximum adaptability. The circular LED ring luminaires have a round, curved aluminium profile with an integrated opal diffuser that ensures light is distributed evenly and without producing glare. Flexible dimming options and individual lighting controls mean the luminaires can be adjusted to suit the specific needs and ambiance of a room, providing an eye-catching feature in any setting.
